Novel Biomarkers of Acute Kidney Injury (AKI) after Cardiac Surgery

The Translational Research Investigating Biomarker Endpoints (TRIBE) consortium aims to improve the outcomes and safety of cardiac surgery. This multicenter prospective observational study is sponsored by the NHLBI to investigate novel biomarkers in the detection of early AKI after major cardiac surgery. The main objective of the study is to determine whether the novel biomarkers can be used as diagnostic tests to improve pre-operative and post-operative risk-stratification of AKI. 

Nine North American sites are participating in this project, with Yale University serving as the primary data and sample coordinating site. Over the course of the study, it is expected that over 1,500 patients undergoing cardiac surgery will be enrolled. Blood and urine specimens will be collected during hospitalization.
